This looks exactly like one of those rather strange German salamis when it is finished. It is, however, an extremely sweet but very delicious Hungarian dessert. It is quite economical for a buffet and very easy to make providing you take a little time. Not a lot can go wrong.
Put the honey into a double boiler, or a bowl set over a pan of boiling water, and bring to a boil (this is slower than using an ordinary saucepan, but safer because it prevents any danger of the honey burning). Remove the honey from the heat and mix in the poppyseeds, walnuts, and spices. Leave the mixture to cool.
Place the mixture on a marble slab or wet board and shape it into a salami-like cylinder. Roll it in wax paper and refrigerate overnight. Cut into slices just before serving.
