Unless you live in the South or shop in a store that carries a wide variety of somewhat less-familiar produce, rutabagas may be hard to come by. They are yellow-fleshed, slightly sweet, turnip-like root vegetables that have a waxy exterior (which is sometimes pink- or purple-hued). If and when you have some, be sure to make these fries. They made me fall in love with the vegetable.
