This dish has no association with Switzerland whatsoever. Its naming apparently came about in 1860 at Tai Ping Koon restaurant in Guangzhou (formerly known as Canton) when a customer asked a waiter what the chicken wing dish was called. The waiter responded “Sweet Wings,” but the customer heard “Swiss Wings,” and somehow the name stuck. Tai Ping Koon moved to Hong Kong in 1938 and is one of the oldest restaurants in the city.
