Shahi tukray is a bread pudding dessert. It is made with fried bread slices that are soaked in sweetened hot milk infused with cardamom and saffron. It is also called double ka meetha. I make it fairly often, as it is my husband’s favourite desi (local) dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 litre Whole Milk
  • 3 tbsp Sugar
  • ½ t

Method

Boil milk and cook until it reduces to half.

In the meantime, cut the bread slices into half (triangle shaped), and shallow-fry in ghee.

Add sugar and condensed milk to the reduced milk.

Add crushed nuts, saffron, and kewra essence to mixture.

Arrange the fried bread slices in a serving dish, and pour the milk mixture over it.
