This is a cheater’s harissa using dried chili flakes and tomato paste. It’s on the mild side, so heat seekers may want to add more spice.

Method

In a food processor, pulse garlic until minced. Add remaining ingredients, blend, scrape sides, and blend again until smooth. Transfer to a glass jar or airtight container and store in refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Or, freeze tablespoon-sized portions on a parchment lined baking sheet, transfer frozen portions to a zip-top bag, and freeze for up to 2 months; take out portions as needed, defro
