Figs have been used in cakes in Greece for centuries; in fact, documents of original Greek recipes date back to 180ce. They passed on recipes via the Romans and now wherever figs grow, you’ll find someone baking a fig cake. This recipe, which includes nuts as well as figs, is for a wonderful cake and was given to me by Greek friends who love the combination of flavours - it reminds them of long hot holidays under the vines.
