There’s many an argument about how to say ‘scone’ in the UK where they are a favourite teatime treat. Does it rhyme with ‘gone’ or ‘stone’? And, should you put the clotted cream on first (as in Devon cream tea) or the jam on first (as in Cornish cream tea)? However you say it and however you serve it, these little cakes are easy to rustle up for impromptu visitors and can be adapted to what you have in the cupboards; they can be as simple or fancy as you like.
