Central Macau bustles with food stalls selling a variety of Macanese and Cantonese treats on this island near Hong Kong. These egg custard tarts are a common sight and are very similar to Pastéis de Nata, the Portuguese egg tart, famously made at the monastery in Belem, just outside Lisbon. Macau has many Portuguese influences left over from its colonial days and these are one of the most tempting and most popular.
