Rumour has it that it was England’s King Henry VIII who, in the 16th century, loved these melt-in-the mouth tarts when he first discovered them, being eaten by Anne Boleyn and her maids of honour (ladies in waiting), and who then demanded the secret be kept under lock and key at Richmond Palace. Whether this is true or not isn’t known for sure, but what is known is that they taste wonderful. I’ve used blueberries here but try them with blackcurrants when they’re in season - they’re sublime.
