Sweet breads play an important role in Russian holidays and religious ceremonies and during Easter the most popular bread is a fruited one that is baked into a tall cylindrical shape known as Kulich. Each Russian family has their own recipe and traditionally the family’s matriarch brings the Kulich to church to be blessed by the priest and only then can it be eaten.
