Most Mooncakes are pastry wrapped around a sweet dense filling; the pastry and the fillings vary depending on which region you’re in when you’re eating them. Typically, they are consumed at just one time in the year - during the Chinese mid-Autumn festival, which occurs during the full moon of the eighth month and is the second most important Chinese festival after New Year. The moon is at its brightest at this time and these cakes are eaten with friends and family during the celebrations.
