This rich and festive dessert is created with mostly humble ingredients – just bread, ghee, sugar and milk – but is made luxurious by the addition of saffron and nuts. It is a very popular classic royal dessert and is said to have originated during the Mughal region. Shahi tukda was a favourite of the Mughal emperors and was enjoyed with their festive iftar meals during the month of Ramadan.
