This is a traditional Bengali recipe of potatoes cooked in a poppy-seed paste, that you can easily prepare and serve at home along with Luchhi. Ideally enjoyed for breakfast, aloo posto can also be enjoyed as a side to other dishes such as dal. This is a light dish with a subtle spiciness to it.

Ingredients

  • 10 tbsp poppy seeds
  • splash of water or coconut milk
  • 4 tbsp

Method

Place the poppy seeds in a blender along with the splash of water or coconut milk and blitz to a paste. Set aside.

Heat the oil in a wide pan over a medium heat. When hot, add the nigella and cumin seeds. Once they start to crackle, add the potatoes and fry them well until golden brown in colour.
