Hailing from nearby Hyderabad, this is a simple dal recipe with a perfect balance of flavours. South Indians add tamarind and tomatoes to their dishes, which bring a tangy sourness that works so well. This goes beautifully with plain rice, raita and pappadums. I use toor dal (yellow lentils) here, but you can also use masoor dal (red lentils) to make this.
