A traditional Gujarati one-pot dish of simmered wholemeal/wholewheat flour dumplings in a thin dal.
Wash the toor dal under cold running water until the water runs clear, then leave to soak in plenty of fresh water for 15–20 minutes.
Heat the oil in a large pan over a medium heat. Add the garlic and sauté for 2–3 minutes, then add the soaked lentils, measured water and salt. Bring to the boil, then simmer until the lentils are cooked, about 15–20 minutes.
