These simple flatbreads are usually made with wholemeal/wholewheat flour, but my mother used to use a multigrain flour for extra nutrition and would add carom seeds too. Carom seeds help reduce high cholesterol and aid digestion, but they are entirely optional here.

Ingredients

  • 250 g/9 oz/2 cups wholemeal/wholewheat or multigr

Method

Sift the flour with the salt in a large bowl. Add the carom seeds, if using, and oil, and mix well. Slowly add half of the warm water and mix with your hands, gradually adding more water just until you have a soft dough. The dough shouldn’t be too dry or too wet, so adjust accordingly.

Divide the dough into 5–6 balls of equal size. Use a rolling pin to roll each ball out to a thickness
