  • About

Cool climates are said to be better for white wines, hotter areas for reds, but Sicily has turned that on its head, being best known for her crisp whites, grown mostly on the west of the island. Names like Alcamo, Corvo, Etna, Regaliali, Terre di Ginestra, Vigna Gabri and others are associated with both whites and reds. The island is most famous for its fortified wine, Marsala, of which there are several types and colours (including Vecchio Samperi and Joséphine Doré). Passito wines, made from dried and semi-dried grapes, are perfect with Sicilian pastries. The best known come from the neighbouring small islands - Malvasia from Lipari, and Moscato from Pantelleria.
