Small cakes and other desserts look dramatic when covered with a little caramel dome.
- Rub the outside of a metal bowl with vegetable oil. Prepare the caramel.

- Immediately after dipping the bottom of the caramel pan in water, pour the caramel in thin streams over the bowl and allow to cool for 5 minutes.

- Gently nudge the dome off the bowl.

- If the dome is smaller than the cake, place it on top; if it is large enough, place it over the cake or over individual servings.
