Gochugaru are Korean red pepper flakes. The spice level ranges from mild to hot, depending on the type of peppers. It’s one of the essential spices responsible for creating spicy flavors in Korean cuisine. There are two types of gochugaru, coarse and fine. The fine powder is often used for making gochujang while the coarse is used for making kimchi. Coarse-ground gochugaru is ideal for general cooking, including making chili crisp.
