Sichuan Chili Flakes

Chinese Sichuan chili flakes are made from dried Chinese red peppers. Some common varieties include Facing Heaven chiles and Er Jing Tiao chiles. Depending on the brand and variety, the level of spice, flavors, and coarseness can change. Since they contribute all the spice to homemade chili crisp, choose the kind that has the desired heat level. Some Sichuan chili flakes are incredibly spicy, while others are darker in color and not as spicy, even less than regular Italian crushed red pepper flakes.
