Anyone who was in the military service in Italy will remember spezzatino for the rest of his life. It is a very economical meat dish, as any cut of beef can be used to make it. Other ingredients include tomatoes, onion and puréed olives. The sauce was used to dress pasta and the meat eaten with vegetables.
