The word integrale, meaning complete or whole, is used to describe a grain or flour where the bran as well as the grain is milled. There are many whole-grain foods, including pane integrale (wholewheat bread), farina integrale (wholewheat flour), grissini integrali (wholewheat breadsticks) and pasta integrale (wholewheat pasta).

Although wholewheat products are high in vitamins and have lots of roughage, my opinion is that this is at the cost of taste, as wholewheat foods are not as appetising as those made with ordinary white flour.
