Cumin is a very aromatic spice that comes from the fruit of a plant called Carum carvi, which is similar to aniseed. It grows in the summer around the edges of fields and is used to flavour breads, potato dishes and sauerkraut. It is only used in the north-east of Italy, in Trentino, Friuli and Veneto.
