This term is used of salads of fresh fruits, cut into pieces and left to macerate in orange or lemon juice with a little added sugar and perhaps a splash of liqueur, usually Maraschino. Macedonia can also consist of vegetables, either raw or cooked, and dressed with vinaigrette or mayonnaise.
