All small savoury pastry snacks served with aperitifs are known as salatini. They are usually made with puff or shortcrust pastry, topped with cheese, anchovies, capers, olives, or seeds such as those of the poppy and fennel, or simply with ground pepper or salt. You can make these nibbles with frozen puff pastry and the flavouring of your choice, but in Italy they can be bought at the pasticceria.
