Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio

The area all around Vesuvius has a rich volcanic soil on which the Coda di Volpe and Verdeca grapes grow vigorously, giving birth to the Vesuvio Bianco wine. When this has a natural minimum alcohol content of 12%, it can be called Lacryma Christi (‘tear of Christ’). Pale yellow in colour, and dry with a touch of acidity, this excellent Neapolitan wine is perfect for the light local dishes. The Vesuvio Rosso (deep red) and Rosato (rosé) are made with the Piedi Rosso and Sciascinoso grapes which also grow locally. Again, if these have a minimum alcohol content of 12% they are also called Lacryma Christi.
