A popular ingredient in early European cooking, long pepper mysteriously fell out of favour as black pepper took over as king. The nubbled and elongated peppercorns have a sharp, sweet and hot taste with more nuance. You could almost be tasting a spice blend rather than a single berry, as there are notes of nutmeg and cinnamon. Try it in your pepper grinder to change things up.
