Lapsi fruit, also known as labsi or lausi (Choerosos pondias), are considered a native wild fruit of Nepal. In English, they are commonly referred to as Nepalese hog plums. The tall subtropical tree can be found growing in many hilly parts of the country. The fruit is greenish-yellow when ripe and roughly resembles a small oval-shaped plum. Harvesting season is from September to January. The fruits are allowed to remain on trees until they become fully ripe. Once they are completely yellowish-green and the thick pulp becomes soft and comes off easily from the branch, they are harvested by handpicking or shaking the tree. Some of the unripe green lapsi that have fallen from the trees are separated and left to ripen further.
