A low, square table covered with a thick quilt overhanging on all sides, traditionally placed in the family living room. A brazier with hot coals is then placed under the table. In cold winter weather family and friends spend the day and sometimes all night sitting on large cushions (futons) around the korsi with their legs underneath the table and the cloth over their laps; hours pass eating, drinking, chatting, reading, reciting poetry, and sometimes playing foot-sie enjoying the cozy warmth. Today a small electric space heater can be effectively used instead of the brazier.
