Nearly all Brazilians eat beans on a daily basis. Black beans appear as the main ingredient of Brazil’s national dish, Feijoada, while in the north and west of the country, preference shifts to other types of bean, such as mulatinho (small red kidney beans), feijão de corda, fradinho (black-eyed beans (peas)), carioca, roxinho and many others.
Corn is the most popular grain in Brazil. As a fresh product it is used in recipes such as curau (corn custard) and pamonha (steamed creamed corn). It is also milled into flour (fubá), which is used in Bolo de Fubá (maize cake) and polenta (corn flour mash), a popular side dish served with stews.
