Flatfish Anatomy

A flatfish, such as sole, is composed of two thin layers of flesh separated by small bones that fan out from the backbone. Along the outer edges of the flesh small bones attach the dorsal and anal fins. Flatfish swim horizontally along the sea bottom with both eyes facing upward.
