If you have caught a pike, for instance, immediately submerge it in the net into fresh water. Meanwhile drill holes into a board of the same width and length as the fish and knock together a box. Line the bottom with moss moistened with water. Place a piece of sponge moistened with French wine on the gills of the fish, set the fish on the moss, and cover with more moss. Hammer on a lid made from a board drilled with holes. Fish may be transported a great distance in this manner, only try to pour cold water over this box as often as possible. And, if possible, lower the box into a river or lake for a short time when an opportunity presents itself.
