On a sunny Monday afternoon, Itege Caro steps out onto the pale sands of Playa Stella in Rincón, Puerto Rico. The westernmost tip of the island, it’s a far cry from the bustling, congested San Juan metro area. Many who visit the island don’t make it this far west, as it takes several hours on the island’s wild expressways, followed by incredibly narrow, steep mountain roads. There, high cliffs give way to stunning views of a seemingly endless ocean with dramatic waves that make it the so-called surf capital of the Caribbean.
