Italian for "before the meal", it denotes an assortment of cold meats, vegetables and cheeses, often marinated, served as a first course. A typical antipasto might include salami, prosciutto, marinated artichoke hearts, anchovy fillets, olives, tuna fish and Provolone cheese.
