Slicing Onion

Onions may be cut in thick or thin slices to use in a variety of dishes, particularly soups and stews. Sliced onions feature in many salads and can be sprinkled for a fresh garnish. Some recipes may call for onions to be finely diced or chopped.
  1. Peel the onion, trimming the top. Cut it in half, set it cut side down on a board and trim the root.

  2. Hold the onion firmly and cut it in vertical slices, guiding the knife with your bent fingers.
