Slicing Onion into Rings

Onions are sliced into rings for broiling, baking or to eat raw in hamburgers and sandwiches.
Peel a large onion, trimming the stem and root. Turn the onion on its side, hold it securely on the board with one hand and cut thick or thin slices in downward strokes. Leave the slices whole or push them apart into rings.
