Pitting Avocado

To serve with dressing, to fill with a salad, or for peeling and slicing, avocado is cut in half and the pit is removed.
  1. Cut lengthwise around the avocado, through to the pit. Twist with both hands to loosen the pear halves and pull them apart.

  2. With a chopping movement, embed the blade of a heavy knife in the pit and lift it free of the avocado. Alternatively, scoop out the pit with a spoon.
