Tinned, cooked beans and pulses are often great and you can enjoy them without presoaking and slow cooking. Quality does vary, so try different brands of your favourites and cook with the ones you like. ‘Best before’ dates are guidelines only – if the food inside the tin is inedible the tin will have started to ‘blow’ (bloat). Don’t buy damaged tins.
