Named after the protagonists in The Thin Man series of films from the 1930s and 1940s, the Nick and Nora glass is based on the ones used by the characters. The glasses Nick and Nora used were about a third the size of today’s martini glass. We use them to serve all our ‘straight-up’ cocktails. I don’t use martini glasses as I don’t like them at all. Drinking out of them is really hard – the liquid spills – and so is carrying them on a tray. The Nick and Nora are becoming popular again so they’re easy to get hold of and they look very elegant. The size of the Nick and Nora also means that provided your drink has been made well, it should stay cold for the length of time it takes to drink it.
