MASTIC (sometimes wrongly called gum arabic, which is glue). The hard resin of the acacia tree is sometimes used as chewing gum with a little piece of ordinary wax to soften it. It must be pulverized before it is used to flavour puddings. Years ago it also sometimes went into stews.
