Black Moss

This is actually a dark green algae. It is expensive (which probably explains why there are numerous, cheaper counterfeits on the market) but can be kept for a long time. Thought to have a cleansing effect on the body, black moss can be found in Chinese medicinal shops. The Chinese word for black moss, ‘fa cai’ bestows this ingredient a venerated status as it sounds like the word for prosperity.
