Caring for Strawberries

Appears in
A Passion for Desserts

By Emily Luchetti

Published 2003

  • About
After you bring strawberries home from the market, take them out of the basket and place in a single layer on a tray lined with a paper towel. Leaving the strawberries in their container causes them to deteriorate much more quickly, and one bad berry will contaminate the others. If you are enjoying the berries that day, leave them on the counter. Refrigerate strawberries overnight but let them sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before serving to take the chill off and release their flavor and fragrance.
