For cultivated mushrooms, brush the dirt away with a dry towel. For wild mushrooms, especially morels (which can be very inhabited with crawlers), soak in heavily salted water to kill or at least make the bugs detach from the mushroom. Then lift the mushrooms from the salty water and dry on towels before cooking. Washing mushrooms does not cause them to absorb water, making roasting difficult. Just give them a good dry.
