It makes sense that the seeds of the trees that produce delicious sap would be sweet and edible, too. Maple seeds are best in the spring, when those whirligigs are fluttering in the wind.
Gather the green maple seeds, remove the outer casing, and scatter onto a baking sheet. Sprinkle with a little salt and maple sugar and bake at 350°F for about 5 to 8 minutes, shaking the pan occasionally.
