When I have grown something out of the ordinary and it has succeeded I often find myself caught in two minds. A part of me wants to keep this new discovery to myself (perhaps so that I may eat all the world has to offer of it), while the rest of me wants to shout to everyone that’ll listen that I think I may have found a real classic.

This is only the second year I’ve grown kai lan, so rather than shouting yet I’m whispering it loudly - I am quite blown away by this wonderful plant.
Simply put, kai lan is a dreamlike combination of three of the finest flavours you can take from the garden, all in one plant, looking and tasting very much like an untidy cross between sprouting broccoli, kale and asparagus. And if that doesn’t get you interested I’m not sure what will.
