amurensis, an Asian vine species of the vitis genus which takes its name from the Amur valley of northern China. The exceptionally cold climate in which it originates makes it useful to vine breeders seeking to introduce genes for cold hardiness. Professor helmut becker in particular developed hybrids which included both Riesling and V. amurensis in their complex pedigrees (e.g. Solaris). See also cabernet severny.
