Barossa Valley, the heart of the Australian wine industry, the most famous wine region in australia, and the one in which most wine is produced, even if a high proportion of it is shipped in from vineyards outside the valley itself. There is an increasing trend towards planting off the valley floor and on higher ground on the hillsides. On the other side of the coin, the incalculable value of the viticultural bank of Shiraz, Grenache, and Mourvèdre vineyards, up to 170 years old, dry-grown (see dryland viticulture), and ungrafted makes this a heritage area which can be neither duplicated nor replaced.
