Barrel Types: Germany

Although Germany formed its own group of daring iconoclasts, the Barrique Forum, in the early 1990s, most of the cooperage used until very recently has been large, old, and typically on the Mosel a Fuder holding 1,000 l/264 gal or on the Rhine a Stück of 1,200 l/317 gal. A Halbfuder and Halbstück are half these sizes respectively.
