bianco, means ‘white’ in Italian and the names of many Italian white wines therefore are Bianco d’/da/di/del Place-name. For more details, see under the place-name.

Note, however, that Bianco is also the name of a small town in calabria where an ancient sweet white dried-grape wine, Greco di Bianco, is still produced today from grapes known locally as greco bianco. This variety is distinct from the greco of Campania and has been shown by dna profiling to be identical to malvasia di Lipari.
