Blauer Wildbacher, ancient, dark-skinned, perfumed grape variety that is a speciality of western styria where almost all of the 422 ha/1,042 acres grown in Austria are located. The variety has been increasingly popular with growers and almost all of it is made into the notably tart, local pink speciality, Schilcher. dna parentage analysis suggests a parent–offspring relationship with gouais blanc.
